Last weekend, students from Halifax West High School took a STAND against ending genocide in Darfur.

"We're going to show Halifax we care," Halifax West High School STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) co-leader Erika Schneidereit told a crowd of approximately 80 people armed with banners and signs. The group met in the parking lot of St. Agnes School on Mumford Road for a walk through the streets of Halifax that ended at Parade Square with talks by Halifax MP Alexa McDonough and Halifax West MP Geoff Regan. The walk was symbolic of the distance Darfuri people have to walk every night to get water, at the risk of being raped or killed.
